Ever tried making something similar to ham at home?
I made some homemade ham
(or maybe it's more like a beef patty, hamburger patty, or spam?)
and surprisingly, it tasted just like the store-bought version! ????
Here’s my super easy recipe:
First, buy some ground beef or pork.
I got mine from Costco—honestly, I haven't found a better place for ground meat yet.
The size and price are unbeatable.
The package I got was 1.25kg, and it’s even bigger than it looks in the picture!
Now, while you can use the meat as-is, ham or spam tastes better with some fat.
So, I added some beef tallow, which you can buy separately.
Like this one
I got mine for 4,600 KRW today, and it’s a lot, so you can freeze the leftover.
For that classic ham or spam texture, add some flour and water (or tapioca flour and water if you’re on a low-carb diet).
Then, mix in garlic powder, sugar (use allulose for low-carb), and salt (don’t be shy with the salt!).
And that’s it!
For a more authentic ham or spam shape, you would usually use a baking mold and boil it.
But, I’m all about simplicity, so I just mixed everything in my rice cooker and used the multi-cook (steaming) function for 70 minutes.
Here’s the result!
Maybe it could’ve cooked a bit longer, but it still looks pretty good, right?
I divided it in half—one part goes in the freezer, and the other in the fridge.
When you’re ready to eat, just fry it in a pan like you would with regular ham or spam.
How does it taste?
Surprisingly delicious!
It’s free of additives, healthy, and you can easily make a low-carb version by skipping the carbs.
Even my picky eaters love it—they say it’s easier to chew, which might be why.
If you use beef, it tastes like a homemade burger patty.
If you use pork, it tastes like spam (remember, you need a good amount of salt!).
So here it is, my easy homemade ham or spam recipe, perfect for busy moms.
It’s simple, tasty, and healthy.
This is great as a snack for kids or as a lunchbox item.
It’s easy to make with ingredients you already have at home, which is especially helpful with rising food prices.
Plus, you can adjust the ingredients to your taste—add more garlic if you love it, or toss in some pepper.
You can even add vegetables like finely chopped carrots or onions to boost nutrition.
Cooking this with your kids could be a fun activity too.
They always seem to enjoy food more when they’ve helped make it!
You can use this homemade ham in sandwiches, as a breakfast toast topping, or as a filling for kimbap.
Give it a try—it’s easier and tastier than you might think!
